About Us
We only publish novel excerpts. Some magazines and journals take excerpts, but they want them twisted and crammed into the shape of a short story. We're dedicated to real excerpts that feel like they come from novels we want to read -- they may pop us into the action and leave us hanging at the end. Each issue includes 5 winning novel excerpts from our contest across a variety of styles and genres. |
Our Mission
We want more people to read more novels, it's that simple. Why? Because we agree with Milan Kundera: "The novelist teaches the reader to comprehend the world as a question. There is wisdom and tolerance in that attitude. In a world built on sacrosanct certainties the novel is dead. The totalitarian world... is a world of answers rather than questions. There, the novel has no place." (The Book of Laughter and Forgetting)
We are a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to paying new- and early-career novelists for excerpts and working to get those excerpts in front of agents and publishers.
